This eBook shows how these different size games can be taught and also shows different systems of play that might be useful to you.
Run with them as you may and of course come up with your own solutions too as that is what coaching is all about. I have introduced the use of RONDOS to initially aid the development of players for the game situation.
Identifying and Solving Common Real Game Situation Problems in the Training Environment
This is a different way to look at the game, rather than highlighting what we need to do well, it shows what often goes wrong and how to fix it. These are many situations I have found happen in top level games. How many of these problems do YOU experience with your team?
98 pages outlining 31 different real game issues and how they can be fixed before they happen. Interactive table of contents links to each section.
This 222 page eBook from Wayne Harrison, founder of Soccer Awareness, explores the use of rondos in youth soccer. He has included as a way to work into these game situations many Rondo ideas that are great foundation builders for players learning to combine and play together. The book stays with simplistic ideas that all levels of players can try and be successful at. It is up to each coach to work out how to make it work for their players.
Though the foundation of the basic rondo stays the same; we explore different ways to present it. It can be made easier or more difficult based on the number of touches players are allowed, for example, so it benefits ALL players who practice with them; also the size of area they play within can be manipulated to change the challenge. Rondos are a great way to prepare players for the game situations and especially the fast decision making needed within the game.
This eBook includes drills and teaches technique that you can use in practice to help your team perfect their dribbling. You will learn different techniques to control the ball, specific dribbling moves, awareness dribbling work, dribbling for possession and more than 50 pages of drills that you can use with your team.
This 60 page eBook teaches rotational combination movements to teach in 11 v 11.
Positioning and rotations correctly “off the ball” is vital for team success. We begin with a description of the roles of each player and how and where they can move to compliment each other. After establishing the roles and responsibilities of each player, we look at how small movements off the ball can open up spaces for players and create passing lanes.
The potential weakness in this system and STYLE of play are the defensive adjustments needed to ensure our fluidity of attacking movement doesn’t cost us when we lose possession of the ball.
This presentation shows how we can make sure; defensively; we are disciplined and solid by teaching the players where to immediately press; where and when to recover; and how to fill in and cover for each other immediately the ball is lost.
Therefore we transition (in MIND and BODY) from incredible freedom of attacking momentum; which brings imagination, interchanges and rotations, to the opposite; intense, concentrated and positionally disciplined defense.
This is a simple way to show how we can make sure the team is well organized to allow the attacking freedom to take place; knowing we can cover ourselves if we lose the ball.
Includes In-Depth Information on Striker Movement
Soccer is a sideways on sport -- players will have much more success when they are able to receive the ball at an angle. Being sideways on allows players, in advance of the ball, to be able to see peripherally advancing defenders.
These exercises are excellent for developing this sideways on aspect of receiving and passing the ball. This aspect of play becomes particularly important when one touch soccer is required. Being able to have the body halfway turned enables attacking players to use a couple of maneuvers to get past defenders.
Counter attacking is a great way for defending teams to break out of their own half, releasing the pressure on the defenders and creating chances to score. Some teams use counter-attacking tactics successfully against weaker teams and in two or three quick moves can go from defending to scoring a goal.
This is an Excellent Quick Break and Counter Attacking Development Plan highlighting:
- Constant Transitions from Attack to Defense
- Developing Quick Break Play from the Back
- Introducing Attacking from the Back Through the Units
- Developments for the Transition Game

This 53 page eBook features Wayne Harrison's 12 Favorite Target Game practices. Table of contents is below.
The secret is to develop ideas from set Conditions which force a THEME to be practiced.
When the players master the theme and can execute it successfully using the CONDITION, take the condition out and the players then have to decide for themselves WHEN and WHERE they make their choices of what to do.
This way the players take over the decision making process from the coach (who should be there to guide only), which in the long term makes them 1000% better players for it.
If players can't pass and receive the ball in soccer, they will not be successful. The coach of youth players should emphasize technical training while also having a basic understanding of correct technical execution. This can be accomplished using a variety of conditioned games to teach techniques in a way that provides plenty of repetition. This book contains 33 passing and receiving drills that you can implement with your team. Each exercise is explained and important coaching points are emphasized.
Shooting drills are the best way to improve soccer players shooting on goal with power and accuracy. Training shooting soccer drills at an early age will show great improvement in a youth players shot. Shooting drills make player’s shot better through muscle memory, consistency and repetition that make the brain memorize the motion and position of the body so the player can perform these shots during a soccer match. These are 17 of Wayne’s favorite shooting drills for working with U6 to U10 players that are also fun.
This 54 page eBook combines striker training with small-sided games into eight full training sessions, each with coaching points, multiple progressions and developments.
Striker movement is one of the greatest and most difficult ARTS to master. The situation is constantly changing and the striker is constantly moving to create space for him or herself but also for teammates.
Small-sided games are important in the development of younger players through increased touches with the ball and more experience with basic tactical challenges.
Based On Age Group Sizes Of Games
Soccer shape teaches players how to defend and attack as a team. No matter what formation you choose to play, Team Shape is a vital component to how successful your team will play on the weekend. In this book we will look at various options based on age groups for the size of the games.

The game is really all about 4 Phases of Play. It can be divided up further into sub phases but the essence of the game are these 4. This eBook is what one of my main training sessions is based on. We actually train very often with this precise game situational model as it totally mirrors what I expect my team to do in the actual games. In doing so, we practice the same ideas over and over until they become AUTOMATIC when it matters.
I hope you enjoy this eBook. It's a great way to prepare your team for your games
Small-sided games are important in the development of younger players through increased touches with the ball and more experience with basic tactical challenges.
Our goal is to create self thinking players who know how to position instinctively based on where the ball is; both when they have possession and when they don’t have possession. In doing so we work on angles of support to each other rather than just linear support and straight lines. Therefore; rather than “just having a game”, digest the following information where you can actually get “specific practice” out of just 3 v 3 or 4 v 4 games that are TOTALLY relevant to the 8 v 8 and 11 v 11 formations and the relationships between players.
Elements of Warm Ups
1. Activities to Raise the Heart Rate - Gradual increase recommended, heat produced in the body warms up the muscles.
2. Game Specific Movements (Awareness session)
Slow pace – half pace – faster pace. Changes in direction, turning and striding out
Passing – Receiving and turning.
This 103 page eBook explores one touch training and movement off the ball and includes 90 pages of drills that you can do with your team. Table of contents is below.
When you use these training sessions consistently you will see the development of that relationship between having a ONE TOUCH mentality and Movement OFF the ball.
This 38 page eBook shows a different way to look at the game, rather than highlighting what we need to do well, it shows what often goes wrong and how to fix it.
These are many very simple situations I have found that happen in many games.
How many of these problems do YOU experience with your team?
Defending can be an overlooked Art in the game. Many of us love attacking play and train our teams a lot in it but to attack we need to defend well to win the ball in the first place to then allow us to attack. This book helps explain the importance of great defending and how vital it is to teach players the principles of it. These principles do not just apply to defenders per se; in this book we also teach strikers how to defend as if they win it then they are directly on goal to score. When we defend as a team everyone; all 11; are defenders and must be trained in it as when we attack we are all attackers and likewise we have to teach all 11 players to think offensively. We hope you enjoy this book and appreciate the importance of this great Art of Defending in soccer.
Receiving and turning is a technique that every player in every field position must have in their locker. The sooner they are taught this ability the better; that is why we focus here on such young ages.
Which way do they turn? Too many players turn into opponents rather than away from opponents so coaches should emphasize this in their training. Also do they turn with the inside or the outside of their foot or with both? They must practice both ways and with both feet to be effective as they gain more understanding of the technique that becomes a skill when decision making is added.
We hope these exercises help you teach the correct techniques to players and help them with their decision making.

27 pages of photos and instructions for reducing the risk of injury. Learn how to develop mobility in the ankles and hips while also strengthening the muscles and movements to support healthy knees. This book follows the same methods used to help professionals like Ali Krieger recover from knee surgery and get back to performing her best on the field.
Ali Krieger is known as one of the fastest players on the US Women's National team and one of the best defenders in the World. Her speed allows her to make plays all over the field, winning the ball on one end, and attacking on the other. Learn how to train like Ali with a plyometric program designed by her personal trainer, Chris Gorres. This program will help you develop the speed and explosiveness you need to compete on a world class level!
The primary purpose of this program is injury prevention but with these core workouts, our goal is to be as strong as possible in stabilizing powerful movements. A weak core can be a major limiting factor when it comes to explosive movements like a vertical jump. This program will help you build the explosiveness you need to win in the air and in short sprints to the ball. It will also help you develop confidence and aggressiveness in situations where contact is involved with another player, or the ground.
Soccer Awareness produced the eBook "Tactical Thoughts on the Development of the 4 v 4, 7 v 7 and 9 v 9 Game Sizes" covering information on team shape and development. We now add this eBook to provide Curriculums in each game size to support the tactical games eBook.
Its all done here for you, paying attention to the ages of the players and the depth of teaching suitable to them.
